Guessing from the title of this post you can probably figure I have been slacking off on my blogging the last few months. We have been super busy, so it isn't that there is nothing to talk about; I will blame it on the lack of extra free time and the beautiful hot sunny summer that we have enjoyed this year. This summer was a summer of changes and growth. I was offered a new position at work which added new challenges and extra hours of responsibility in that area of life. Nadia grew leaps and bounds in communicating. She is quite the jabber box these days speaking part Samoan, Fijian, and English all in one sentence. When Inoke and I are both at work she goes to Aunty Fetu (whom Nadia lovingly calls MOM! just like Fetu's boys do) while there she loves playing with her little buddy Leo. I like to say they have a "love hate" relationship. "Go Leo" is often the first thing that comes out of her mouth when she wakes up in the morning, then as soon as she gets to Leo's house the "hate" part of the relationship often appears out of nowhere. As Nadia and Leo are still learning to SHARE with others and each other. They will play like angels for a few minutes then in an instant it will turn into a full on wrestling match over the toy of the minute. While there, Fetu speaks to her in Samoan. Lucky thing I still remember a little of my two years of Samoan Classes from college. Well at least enough to decipher the ramblings of a toddler.
I haven't quite figured out how Nadia decides which words she likes in which languages. Perhaps if it is easier to pronounce in one she opts for that language? There isn't a rhyme or reason to her words, she understands all three languages, but when it comes to speaking she randomly picks. Like the other night for example we were eating dinner and Nadia clapped her hands did the sign for "finish" then said "Uma! Kahyah tahye, PEESE!" while she rubbed her stomach with the sign for Please. So we have "Uma" Samoan for finish, Fijian is "Oti", then "Kana Tale" which is Fijian for more food, and she finished it all up with English "Please" with Sign Language added in there for good measure. Some days she says "Ai" instead of "Kana" some days she says "Inu" instead of "Gunu" I guess in her little mind it all makes sense. It is quite comical and very entertaining.
Besides that, Nadia spent a good deal of the summer in her pool. She has become quite the little fishy, blowing bubbles, and splashing around for hours at a time. We even took her to the water park a couple weeks ago. She LOVED that place. We will have to go back soon. When it is time to get out of the water you will often hear her screaming "NO! Go WAI!!!" She knows exactly what she wants I have to give her credit for that.
So that is what we have been up to lately. Here are a couple pictures of the summer events...
